This antique barley twist side table was crafted in England around the year 1950. The oak is quite beautiful, while the table itself is very sturdy and remains in good overall condition.
Beautiful English Oak
The English oak displays a rich complexion and a striking grain that should complement any setting. The top boasts a strong grain and medium brown color. The piece has developed a lovely patina over the years, making this antique barley twist side table quite a sight to behold. Also, the scalloped edge of the top provides additional elegance.
Carved barley twist legs
The barley twist legs on this table remain as sturdy today as the day they were carved. A traditional element in English cabinetry for hundreds of years, barley twist legs were originally designed to mimic the elegant twist of natural vines. The imitation of nature has always been a classic element in English cabinetry as well as in furniture generally throughout history. A number of common motifs have surfaced, including swag inlay, the Fleur-de-lis, the rose, etc. Many such carvings can be found in our furniture, but none remains as classic and structurally integrated as the barley twist leg or column. In this particular table the barley twist legs lend it a simple elegance that would complement any period furniture collection.
Very good condition
As the decades have passed, this table has weathered time as only finely crafted furniture can. Small marks and indents from normal wear and use exist here and there. Despite these, this table remains in good, sturdy condition. It is clean and ready to go right into your home or office!
