This antique bureau desk was hand-crafted in Victorian England around the year 1870. Today the faded, light oak wood fits right in with modern rustic decorative themes. Satinwood and ebony string inlays adorn the drawers and fall, providing a slight but lovely contrast.
Each drawer features hand-cut dovetails and solid brass pulls (not original). Each drawer pulls out smoothly, even after all these years. Uniquely shaped bracket feet adorn the bottom. The feet seem to blend the Victorian and Queen Anne styles, giving the antique bureau a transitional feel.
Antique Bureau Interior
Inside the bureau desk part is where the party is at on this piece! Like with any bureau, a number of small drawers and cubbies provide neat little storage areas. However, two very small hidden drawers and a sliding panel reveal a couple of secret areas on this piece. We have a picture dedicated to showing these. Two of the decorative moldings at the top of the cubbies are actually small pull out drawers. The outlined panel on the inside also slides back to reveal a storage place underneath the drawer area. These are unique and make this antique bureau quite special!
This piece is quite distressed and has a multitude of minor repairs, dings, dents, and other marks. The finish has faded since its creation as is apparent in the images. A key is present which only works the lock for the fall. Neither the handles nor the hinges are original. There is a small chip on the left side of the front next to the pull out support for the fall. The bottom molding has sustained a crack near the right foot. Age separations exist on both sides. Also, the top has sustained numerous stains. Other minor repairs and marks exist as well. Despite these cosmetic marks, the piece remains sturdy. They all come together to really tell the story of this bureau’s life, filling it with character which will look great in the right setting.
When open, the desk measures 33″ wide, 15.75″ deep, and is 29.75″ from the floor.
