This antique oak Chippendale writing desk has a rich history and lovely patina. Chippendale is a simple, but classic style that will fit into almost any decorating theme.
Chippendale Writing Desk
Originally made in England around 1940, this desk was built for the English R.A.F. and was recently decommissioned. Upon being decommissioned the Chippendale writing desk was purchased by a furniture maker in England who restored the desk to the excellent condition you see it in today. The new, brown leather makes a perfect writing surface. It is far superior than wood, metal, or glass. The leather is also gold tooled and embossed as any antique leather would have been. The oak has been treated to an elaborate hand finish, ending in coats of fine, hand-rubbed wax. The original construction of the Chippendale writing desk is quite sturdy as evidenced by the drawers. Both of the drawers are joined with dovetailed joints in both the front and back and the drawer bottoms are further supported with quarter-round molding on the inside. Both drawers open and close very smoothly on their wooden runners.
Named after famous English furniture designer Thomas Chippendale, the Chippendale style has been quite popular since the early 19th Century. The simple square legs of this writing desk with the subtle straight carved detail on the corners is the epitome of the style. The new, solid brass pulls are also a Chippendale style and compliment the rich oak wood perfectly.
Being in excellent condition, this Chippendale writing desk will be a perfectly functional part of your decor. Its simple style will allow it to fit a variety of formal or informal rooms. The height from the floor to the bottom of the desk is 23.25″. Notably, there are a few old small indents in the wood that add some character to the piece. Whether you are looking for a small desk to fit a snug office or a side desk for occasional writing, this English oak Chippendale writing desk is the piece for you!
