This beautiful antique dessert buffet hails from France. Crafted there around 1920, it has developed a charm and look very sought after today. Perfect for use in a number of places in the home, you will enjoy this piece for many years to come.
Originally, this server sat in the dining room. When it came time for dessert, the top was flipped up revealing the marble serving surface and a shelf. Dessert dishes rested here and the marble prevented them from damaging the wood. Finally, when the meal ended, the top closes and the beautiful walnut top shows again. Today, this antique dessert buffet also makes a great foyer or entryway piece. Also, it can serve in an office as a handsome piece with serving capabilities.
Antique Dessert Buffet Condition
Overall, this piece remains in good condition. No key remains for the drawers. Also, the marble has some small repairs to it (they are hard to see). General minor wear marks exist here and there. The top has developed a small age separation on the left side. This is cosmetic only. The molding underneath the top has a repair to it. Finally, due to the weight of the marble top, it does have a slight front and back wobble if pushed hard enough. The piece remains structurally sound even with this.
This antique dessert buffet displays a number of beautiful features commonly found on French antique furniture. Turned and fluted columns match well with the fluted brass drawer pulls. Also, hand carved arches provide subtle detail. Finally, large bun feet are sturdy and do not detract from the overall look of this buffet.
The height to the closed top measures 39.5″ and 57″ with the top up.
