Product Description

Perfect for use in an office or living room, this antique English bookcase dates to 1960’s England. Designed in a traditional Georgian style, it would make a fantastic addition to any furniture collection.

Versatile design

Like many antique bookcases, this piece has been designed for multiple uses. The drawers provide convenient storage for accessories, paper, and other items common around the home, while the adjustable shelves would be ideal for either books or other display items. As a result this bookcase would be ideal in nearly any home or office setting. The shelf depth of the upper shelves is 12.75″. Each of the glass doors is made up of individual panes of glass and locks. One key is included which operates all of the locks. The lower cabinets each contain one adjustable wooden shelf as well.

Classic Georgian style

This antique English bookcase contains a number of elements that are part of traditional English cabinetry. Among them are the yew itself–a popular wood in English furniture for hundreds of years–as well as the brass swan neck pulls, astragal glazed glass, and shaped bracket feet. Together these simple yet elegant details form a striking ensemble that really sets this bookcase apart.
Also, the left-center drawer has a lift out tray that can be used for silverware or office supplies. It can also be discarded if you don’t want to use it (it does not appear original to the piece).

Quality antique English bookcase craftsmanship

As sturdy as it is attractive, this bookcase remains in good overall condition. The dovetailed drawers continue to operate smoothly, while the shelves are straight and firm, which is certainly a sign of quality craftsmanship after so many years. The brass pins also fit very snugly in their holes, making shelf adjustment very easy and simple. There are some very small dings here and there (mostly around the feet), but these are cosmetic only. Also, the middle molding has a scratch near the center that has been colored in. Finally, the yew wood has experienced fading in areas that should be apparent in some of the close up photos. While this is not particularly noticeable on yew wood, it is worth mentioning. With good care, this antique bookcase promises to last for many more decades to come!
This does come in two pieces (top and bottom) for easier moving.
