This lovely antique bureau bookcase was crafted in England around the year 1960. The wood is a rich mahogany, with a lovely patina and a pleasing grain that are sure to look great in any setting. Solid brass pulls contrast beautifully with the wood, while the astragal glass bookcase doors also look rather elegant.
Both the doors and the fall lock and each has a key. The two shelves inside the bookcase adjust and have a depth of 8″. Two pull out arms support the fall. Inside, the desk area measures 28″ wide, 19.5″ deep, and 29″ tall. A beautiful red leather panel, a drawer, and several cubbies adorn the interior. Below, four drawers provide great storage. Dovetailed joints join each drawer, a good example of quality craftsmanship.
Structurally, this bookcase remains in excellent condition. It remains sturdy and all moving parts work perfectly. Cosmetically there are a number of issues. First, the mahogany has some fading around the doors and sides. The mahogany on the drawer fronts has developed some crackling and indents. There is a moderate amount of wear on each drawer front and other minor wear marks throughout the piece. Also, a few minor indents can be found on the cornice. Finally the fall has some minor crackling as well. This collection of marks does add some character to the piece.
This piece does break down (into top and bottom) for easier moving.
If you are looking for a great bureau bookcase with rustic appeal, then this piece is for you!
