This beautiful mahogany pedestal desk was crafted in England around 1960 as a Georgian period reproduction. Today, the mahogany retains a rich complexion and a striking grain that look especially lovely in contrast with the burgundy leather writing surface, which is bordered by an elegant gold embossing.
Like most antique desks, this one comes apart in three pieces (top and two pedestals). There are eight drawers total including one file drawer. Inside the file drawer are two slide out wooden dividers. Notably, these dividers allow you to stand up files in the drawer. Each drawer does lock with one included key and every drawer is fashioned with dovetailed drawer joints. Each drawer also sports a unique brass swan neck handle. All sides are fully finished so you can place the desk anywhere in your room.
Overall this antique desk is in good condition. The burgundy leather remains in excellent condition and appears to be recently replaced. There are some normal surface marks to the wood of the top and drawer fronts. The right side has sustained some chips. Finally, the knee-hole area and plinth base have heavy wear in spots as you will see in the pictures. Despite these cosmetic issues the desk functions perfectly and has a beauty and charm about it that would make it a welcome addition to any office space!
The knee-hole area measures 26″ wide (at the narrowest point between the feet) x 22.5″ tall.
