Originally made in England around the year 1920, this antique fire seat adds charm and character to its surroundings. Hand hewn from solid oak, it emanates a charming quality that will enhance any room. This charm, coupled with it heritage make it a wonderful addition to any fireplace.
Barley Twist Supports
One of the more obvious and attractive features of this fire surround display in the barley twist supports. Their creator expertly turned them and made them the perfect proportion for this piece. Also, burgundy leather seat covers provide a subtle contrast to the oak wood. These leather rectangles remain in excellent condition today. Finally, the solid oak wood has developed a beautiful and rustic patina as it has aged.
Antique Fire Seat Uses
Also called a fire surround or fire fender by the English, this antique fire seat provides traditional uses. First, the fender kept anything from rolling out of or stumbling into the fire in older homes. Second, one would sit on the seats to warm themselves by the fire. Today, antique fire seats remain more of a decorative item adding elegance and charm to the room. They can dress up an otherwise plain fireplace.
Overall, this antique fire seat remains in very good condition. Sturdy and well made, we expect it to last for many more years. It does have a distressed look from both minor wear here and there and the originally rough hewn oak wood. These combine to give the piece a wonderful rustic look.
