A gorgeous and versatile piece, this antique flip top sofa table comes from Europe. Made there around the year 1940, today it provides great function within the home. At a narrow 19.75″ in depth, it fits snugly behind a sofa or in a hall. Then, when additional dining or serving table space is needed, the table top flips over and the legs pull out making a large 63″ x 39.5″ table!
Combination of Woods
This flip-top table consists of a variety of woods. Mainly done in walnut, the maker cross banded the top with mahogany. A satinwood inlay separates the banding from the main wood. This combination of wood with its subtle contrasts provides an elegant and finished look. Also, fluted lines and brass decorations on the legs complete the look. Finally, carvings on the front of the apron and above each leg add a little interest to those areas.
The finished back makes another great feature of this antique flip top sofa table! With a finished back you can place the item anywhere, and even if it pokes up a little above your sofa it still looks good.
Antique Flip Top Sofa Table Condition
The overall condition of this piece remains very good. Still structurally sound, the back legs slide out and support the opened top very well. There are wear marks in the finish on the moldings and on the legs. The top has some light wear to the finish in areas. The back molding at the bottom of the apron sustained two small dents as well.
This antique flip top sofa table is a wonderful piece of furniture that you will be able to use no matter what your situation is. Be sure to bring it home today!
