Victorian Period Antique
Originally made in England, this game table is a Victorian period piece. It was made sometime around the year 1890. The wood used is mahogany. Over the 120+ years of its life, the mahogany has grown a beautiful, warm patina that is so sought after in antique furniture. Minor old stains and dings that accompany this piece serve to enrich this beauty and add character and history to a piece of furniture from centuries past. There are a few of these marks on the top but the legs and feet have sustained the majority.
Inside is new green felt for card playing. Along the bottom of the apron you will find a very nice satinwood and ebony inlay. This inlay adds just a subtle bit of color to the antique game table. There is a larger satinwood banding around the top. This top banding has a small repair and some very small chips at the front which we have pictured.
When closed, the table is 36″ wide x 17.75″ deep and when opened it becomes a full 36″ x 35.5″ table top. The hinges are strong and sturdy. One of the legs has a repair down by the foot which we have also pictured. There is also a repaired crack in the top that you can see when the piece is in its half moon position. This is an older repair and is cosmetic only, not affecting the sturdiness or function of the table.
This is a wonderful game table that would make an attractive addition to any home and can be used for a multitude of purposes within the home.
