Typical of the style, this antique French Renaissance bookcase is decorated in elaborate hand carvings. The wood used is beautiful oak and that oak has developed a wonderful patina over the years.
The carvings are the most unique and wonderful feature of this antique bookcase. The trestle style legs consist of carved lion heads and large carved lion paws for feet. An decorative iron stretcher fits between the trestles nicely. Also, each drawer features a carved face. Many of the other surfaces of the bookcase are carved with flora and geometric patterns. All of this carved by hand, which is quite amazing.
Antique French Renaissance Bookcase
This bookcase was originally made in France around 1940. The two upper shelves are removable but not adjustable. The interior is upholstered in a burgundy velvet fabric. The key locks the two glass doors nicely. The lock is a double throw lock which means you must turn the key two full revolutions to lock/unlock the doors. This antique French Renaissance bookcase does come apart in two pieces (top and bottom) for easier moving.
Overall, the condition of this antique French Renaissance bookcase remains very good. A few minor general wear marks exist here and there. The top of the bottom section has some scratches to the top that are mostly covered by the top. The interior velvet has sustained a few indentations, but remains overall clean. The doors and drawers open easily and the shelves are strong. It is ready to go right into your home or office where it will be a lovely addition for many years to come.
Finally, the shelf depth measures 12.25″.
