An antique jardiniere like this is traditionally used as an ornamental plant stand, although I am sure there are many uses within the home for one today. This particular plant stand is quite nice being tall and having barley twist legs. It was made in England sometime around the year 1920 and remains in very good condition today.
Reminiscent of the Jacobean style, there are matching carved lines on all four sides of the top. Following the nicely turned barley twist legs down you will see this antique jardiniere also has a potboard shelf at the bottom, just above the turned bun feet. The wood is oak and the entire piece is quite dark, perhaps having been ebonized at some point.
There is one very well done repair on this piece. It is located on one corner of the top and the repair is only visible if you look underneath. Otherwise there are minor dings here and there (mostly on the feet). This is a very sturdy piece that could support a heavy plant or other decoration. Don’t miss out on this lovely antique jardiniere while it’s around!
