Product Description

This stunning set of antique ladder back dining chairs were made of solid oak in England around 1940. That date technically makes them vintage rather than antique. The set consists of six chairs, none of which have arm rests.

Distressed Oak Wood

These solid oak antique ladder back dining chairs are beautiful and clean. They have been finished a dark color and worn nicely since they were made. This wear from normal use is what creates a lovely patina on furniture that is so desirable. This patina gives the wood a wonderful old, rustic feel and plenty of character. You will see light wear marks on these chairs on the ladder backs, legs, and feet.

Antique Ladder Back Dining Chairs

Chairs are the hardest type of antique furniture to find in good condition. This set of antique ladder back dining chairs is an excellent find since all of the chairs are in good condition! The seats are a rush seat which retain their strength well. One chair has a single strand of rush that is frayed. The ladder back rests feature five graduated horizontal “rungs”. Graduated refers to the fact that they get thicker as they go from bottom to top. This is important because it shows the maker took his time to add detail and quality to his chairs and didn’t just slap them together off an assembly line.
These antique ladder backs sit on turned legs that are connected with turned stretchers. There are stretchers on all four sides which add stability to the chairs. All six remain in ready to use condition today. All chairs have signs of light wear in the form of tiny marks around the feet and legs as well as the back rests. They do not detract from the set and add additional character to the chairs. There is a natural small split in the wood of the front leg of one chair, but it does not go all the way through and is not structural. Also, one chair has a strange area on the second rung from the top. It is not broken, as this area does not extend through to the back, but looks like it was scraped at some point. This rung is visible in the picture of the close up of the back rest.
The chairs all have minor wear here and there. All of the dining chairs have a seat height of 17″.
