This is an antique leaded glass bookcase from England that was probably made around the year 1900. It is an unusual and extremely beautiful piece that would hold many books and look good doing it!
Oak Antique Bookcase
As many of the wonderful English antiques are, this leaded glass bookcase is made from oak wood. The oak has aged very well and now displays a lovely patina. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the lovely leaded glass on the doors. The term leaded refers to the fact that the individual panes of stained glass are framed with lead, a common technique. In addition to the glass this bookcase is well decorated with a beautiful hand carving. A simple molded cornice that domes in the middle accentuates this carving. The two doors at the bottom display more of the wonderful oak wood. Finally, both sets of doors lock and a single key is included.
Antique Leaded Glass Bookcase
Inside the two upper doors are three adjustable shelves. The depth of each shelf measures 10″. The shelves are fully adjustable by means of a pigeon hole system which we have shown in the pictures.
As you can see this antique leaded glass bookcase is in excellent condition. Despite its over 110 years of life experience, this piece has relatively little wear. A few very minor marks are present here and there, but nothing notable. It does appear the glass was re-glazed at some point (glazing refers to the product used to keep the glass in the door, kind of like wood putty). The old, wavy glass sits securely in both doors.
