This antique leather club chair would make a perfect seat in an office, living room, or lobby. The green leather has a vibrant, energetic feel that will liven any space.
Originally made around 1980 in England, the leather on this club chair has been beautifully worn in. When leather is originally tanned it is stiff and takes time and use to become supple and soft. This leather club chair is perfectly broken in and the leather is very soft and supple. It is also in good condition with normal wear and wrinkling that is part of the aging process that creates really outstanding leather. Notably, there are a few minor cosmetic imperfections. There are some tiny marks on the back of the rolled back rest that were probably made by a cat. The front of the left arm rest has some light discoloration which is hard to see. Also, there is an indent in the back.
Leather Club Chair
The origins of the club chair are thought to be in France where it was referred to as the “comfortable armchair.” Most, like this one, are covered in leather although other materials may be used. The term “club” became popular as these chairs were frequently the seating of choice in gentleman’s clubs. A gentleman’s club is where men would gather to smoke, drink brandy, and discuss politics.
Several other attractive features adorn the leather club chair. The arms are rolled nicely and the leather is held tight with rows of brass brads on the front. The base of the chair is buttoned (a sign of quality furniture making). The seat cushion does remove for cleaning. Caster feet keep the chair sturdy. The seating area measures 18″ wide x 22″ deep and the seat height is 17.5″.
