This stunning mahogany double pedestal dining table was made in England around 1960. The mahogany has a wonderful grain and color and is accented with a beautiful satinwood string inlay and mahogany cross band around the outside edge.
Duncan Phyfe Style
This table is a Duncan Phyfe style with the two turned pedestals with swept and fluted legs that end in brass claw foot casters. The table comes with one leaf but, unfortunately, does not go together with the leaf out. This table easily fits 8 chairs. The proportions of the turned pedestals are perfect for the size of the table top. The fluted detail of the legs is also unusual and quite attractive.
Rope Twist Carvings
One of the more attractive and unique features of this table is the rope twist carving around its edge. Complementing this carving is a small beaded molding around the bottom of the apron. Together they make an attractive and one of a kind look to this dining room table.
The condition of the table is good. Structurally it is very sturdy and sound. The top has sustained some surface scratches that do not penetrate the clear layer of finish. They are hard to see unless the glare of an overhead light catches them at the right angle. One is quite long on one of the end sections (picture included). The pedestal legs seem to be in particularly good shape. Overall this table is in beautiful shape and despite the minor cosmetic flaws is ready to be used immediately.
The distance from the floor to the bottom of the apron measures 27.75″.
