Here we have a very nice set of six antique shield back dining room chairs from England. Each chair in the set is an armless (or side) which would be ideal to pair with a nice set of arm chairs.
These were made in England around the year 1940 and are beautiful and very well made. The wood used is solid mahogany which displays a stunning grain and medium dark wood color. A fine detail line is etched around the outside edges of the front. Complimenting the mahogany are hand carvings and firm seats. These seats do pop out for easy cleaning and recovering.
Each back rest in this set of six antique shield back dining room chairs is beautifully shaped. The interior design is quite simple and features a carved fleur de lis. This French-inspired carving is adds elegance and sophistication to the chairs. We particularly like this set because of the simplistic but stunning way the maker chose to decorate the backs.
Antique Shield Back Dining Room Chairs Condition
We have rated this set as good condition. Each chair is sturdy and wobble free, able to withstand the weight of a heavy diner if necessary. While a few of the chairs have minor, old repairs, all remain strong. We have also had the chairs professionally re-glued. The finish remains in great condition. The only wear are some minor marks around the bottom of the feet here and there. Therefore, this set is ready to go right into your home and be used right away! Don’t miss such a beautiful and functional set of antique dining room chairs that will remain in your family for generations.
The seat height is 18.5″.
