Here we have an English antique trunk. Made in England sometime around the year 1820 out of oak wood, it is a charming piece. Featuring a nice rounded top and gold colored bands and decorations, this piece could still serve as a nice storage solution. Whether its linens, clothes, books, or any other item this antique trunk would certainly make a nice addition to a home.
There is a strong “distressed” look about this piece presented in many dings, cracks and separations. The trunk is still solid and very sturdy. The black paint does have some spots of white paint that was splattered or dripped on it. (probably during a house repainting) There are pieces of the bottom trim molding missing from the left side, both front corners, and the right side.
The metal decorations have been painted gold, a nice contrast to the black. Many of the metal pieces (about half) are either missing parts or missing entirely. To correct this, someone painted gold directly onto the wood where the metal would normally be. Also, being as the lid is extremely large and heavy, it does not stay open by itself. It has to be held up while you transfer items in and out. All in all this is a sturdy antique trunk that could make a charming addition to your home. It’s huge size is not something you will find very often, so don’t miss your chance to own this one of a kind piece!
