This is a lovely antique washstand with a marble top and tiled back splash. Originally people used washstands in kitchens or bedrooms as a place to wash up. The marble top is ideal as it is water proof and the tiled back splash provided protection for the walls behind the piece.
Originally made in England, we purchased this piece over there and have imported it to our antique furniture store in Atlanta, GA. It was originally made in England sometime around 1940. The wood used is gorgeous English pine which has withstood the test of time very well. The wood only has minor wear marks here and there. The marble top is black with small white flecks and veins throughout. On the left and right sides of the marble are a variety of very small nicks. You will also see in the top-down photo of the marble a place on the middle-left where there is an oblong shaped flaw on the surface of the marble. This is not very noticeable except in certain lights, but is worth pointing out.
A single long drawer provides some storage and is adorned with two brass plate back handles. Across the bottom, a potboard connects the four legs provided plenty of strength and stability to the washstand. Finally, the four legs sit on porcelain casters making moving it around a little easier. This washstand will ship in three pieces (base, marble, and tiled back splash) for easier moving. The height from the floor to the marble top is 29″.
