This yew wood bookcase was made in England around 1960 and recently has been imported to our furniture store in Atlanta, GA. Yew wood has a spectacular grain and unique color making it quite beautiful when used in furniture like this bookcase. The cabinet doors of this bookcase display a wonderful example of how beautiful yew wood can be while the glass doors have an astragal fretwork pattern for a very sophisticated look. Both the doors lock with included key.
Adjustable Yew Bookcase
Inside, the top has two adjustable and removable shelves and the bottom has one (bottom shelf does not adjust, only removes). There are two drawers which have dovetailed drawer joints, a sign of quality craftsmanship. The handles are a brass swan neck drop pull.
Overall this antique yew wood bookcase remains in good condition. The crown, middle, and bottom moldings all have a variety of small wear marks. The curved corners of the decorative molding on the lower doors all have some missing finish (see close up picture). Finally, the yew has experienced some minor crazing on the lower doors and top of bottom section. This isn’t very noticeable unless you are looking closely. Overall this is a beautiful piece that would make a great addition to any home or office.
The upper shelves have a shelf depth of 9.5″. Also, the top and bottom do separate for easier moving.
