Made around 1960 this antique English pedestal desk was constructed with a beautiful yew wood. Yew is a native English wood that has a very mellow color and straight grain that is often complimented with bird’s eye like burls. The result is a very pleasing wood. Further complimenting this beautiful wood is the choice of a black leather writing surface. Leather makes the perfect writing surface, far superior to wood, metal, or glass. The leather has a border of gold tooling. This desk has eight drawers all of which open are constructed with dovetailed joints making them very sturdy and strong. One of these eight is a file drawer which can be found at the bottom of the right pedestal. The handles are a brass swan neck drop pull which look wonderful against the yew wood. The top three drawers lock with included key.
Yew Wood Desk Condition
The black leather top of this desk was recently replaced and is in excellent condition. The wood has sustained marks, indents, and scratches throughout. It is quite rustic and full of character. We have included sample pictures of the marks, but you will find them throughout the piece. A very minor and hard to see repair exists on the top back right corner. Overall the piece is very beautiful, and the marks that are throughout give it the charm of an older piece.
A stunning desk, this will make a wonderful addition to any home or office. This desk does separate into three pieces for easier moving. The knee hole measures 26.25″ wide and is 24″ tall.
