Exuding elegance, these ball and claw foot dining chairs are a distinct set of side side chairs (no arms) with distinct style. They would make a wonderful set for a small dining room or to augment an existing set.
Each chair was hand made from solid mahogany wood and they are substantial and heavy. Their sturdy construction and the expert craftsmanship that went into them means these mahogany dining chairs will last for generations. The wood has been stained a nice, dark mahogany color that will go with almost any dining room furniture.
The carvings are definitely what sets these ball and claw foot dining chairs apart. The front legs feature scrolled carvings on the “knees” then a distinct ball and claw foot. To balance these intricate carvings, the back rests are not carved. Instead, they feature smooth lines and a “pierced” center section. This is all indicative of the Chippendale style.
Ball and Claw Foot Dining Chairs Condition
As you can see, one chair has just a white muslin upholstered cushion. All cushions easily pop out and recovering them is easy. The current upholstery is worn and dingy and should be changed. One of the chairs has lost a small section of carved molding on the front of the chair. We have included a picture of this. Pushed into a table you would never even see it. The mahogany has sustained general minor wear consistent with age and fading in spots. Having been made in England around 1940, this would be normal aging and wear and tear. The joints of each chair remain strong and sturdy, and these are ready to be used in a modern setting.
The seat height measures 19″.
