Product Description
Here we have a very beautiful piece made sometime around the year 1980. Our best guess is this piece is American, although it could be English. This bookcase with glass doors has a unique and attractive look and several special features that would make it an eye-catching addition to your home or office! Obviously a well made piece, its quality shows in the construction techniques used and how beautiful it remains today.
Bookcase With Glass Doors
The wood used on this piece is a stunning selection of mahogany wood which really makes the bottom doors pop. Satinwood inlays accent the doors and drawers. The combination of woods creates a result that would warm any room you place it in. Also, the plinth base remains strong. This bookcase with glass doors comes in two parts (top and bottom) for easier moving.
Special Features
Several unique features give this bookcase with glass doors a special look. Most obvious are the “bubble” glass doors. Each door consists of seven panes of individually glazed glass. Inside these doors are fixed wooden shelves. The middle shelves feature plate grooves and a depth of 10.25″. Meanwhile, the side sections house fixed shelves with no plate grooves and a depth of 8.25″.
Just below the top resides a secretaire drawer. The resulting leather top desk area provides a work surface measuring 29″ wide and 11.75″ deep. Also, it measures 27.5″ from the floor while open. Regular drawers below this provide great storage. Lower cabinets to the sides house a fixed wooden shelf each. All the top doors have locks and one key is included. The center lock doesn’t keep the center door closed (you can pull it open while the lock is engaged) but ball bearing latches keep the doors closed regardless. Finally, another special feature are the beautiful plate back brass handles on the drawers.
Condition
This bookcase with glass doors is in fair condition. Up close numerous small marks and dings are visible on the plinth base, cabinets, drawers, and middle moldings. While each mark is small, they are numerous. The left and right doors each have a very light scratch on the glass near the top. Otherwise, the bubble glass is in perfect condition. Finally, the leather on the secretaire has some minor wear marks and stains. Don’t miss this special piece, as you won’t be likely to see another one again!
