Here we have a really amazing Victorian carved antique writing desk done in oak with a bank of drawers on top. It is an English antique that was originally made around 1890 featuring barley twist legs and stretcher.
Stunning and Functional
It is hard to believe all of the wonderful carved features in this writing desk. Each of the three (front, left, and right) sides is meticulously carved to great detail. These carvings are the most prominent feature of the desk. The next thing your eye is drawn to are the barley twist turned legs and stretcher. Using a stretcher between the legs allows the heavy desk to remain sturdy even after all these years.
The front of the desk has a great set up of drawers. The bank on top contains five drawers. Meanwhile, the desk itself has two small drawers on the left, a middle drawer, and large drawer on the right. The right drawer and top left drawer lock and a key is included. Carved lion head or green masks make up the center drawer pulls.
Carved Antique Writing Desk Condition
This antique writing desk remains in good condition. It stands sturdy and strong. The top has a cosmetic age separation, common in solid wood pieces. Also, a variety of old and inactive wood worm holes are present here and there. These tend to give the piece a little character. The bottom of the left drawer is chipped a little but you have to bend over to see it. Otherwise this desk has stood the test of time remarkably well and would go great in a variety of surroundings.
The knee area measures 20″ wide and is 23.75″ tall. The height from the floor to the writing surface measures 30″. The bank of drawers does come off for easier moving.
