This gorgeous mahogany dining table with self storing leaves was made by Heresford & Hicks of England. It features two self storing leaves that can bring the length of the table from 66″ to 96″! This makes the table quite versatile and a great fit for any room.
Crafted sometime around 1960, this piece exudes English quality. The mechanisms for storing the leaves still work flawlessly. The table itself continues to sit sturdily and provides a wonderful eating surface. The double pedestal base consists of turned pedestals with three splayed legs on each. Also, the legs have fluting and end in brass claw caps.
The mahogany wood on this dining table with self storing leaves has a beautiful grain. A satinwood string inlay and mahogany cross band offset the edge. Also, fluting on the edge provides a more finished look. Each of the two 15″ leaves has the same look.
Dining Table with Self Storing Leaves Condition
Overall, the condition of this table remains very good. The top may have been refinished at some point. There are some minor blemishes in the top. One near the banding, one on the inside edge of a leaf, and one in the middle of one of the main top areas. These are small and do not jump out at you. Also, the legs have minor wear marks here and there. Overall though, these marks are less than you’d expect from something of this age.
Self storing leaves are quite hard to come by and this table comes in a very versatile size. Easily seating up to ten fully extended, this table will highlight any dining room!
It is worth noting that the table has a slightly shinier sheen than what shows up in the pictures. The close up of the blemish by the banding shows this the best.
