Subtle satinwood inlays and strong mahogany wood define the Edwardian period of antique furniture making. This bow front cabinet is a wonderful example of Edwardian furniture. It is not only attractive but functional as well for storage.
Bow Front Cabinet
The attractive bow front shape of this cabinet is accented with gently tapered legs. A shaped back splash also adorns the top. The one door opens up revealing a large storage area with one fixed, wooden shelf. This door locks and one key is included.
The mahogany wood used on this piece is quite attractive. It has aged well in its 100 years of life. Further augmenting the beauty of the mahogany wood are the satinwood inlays that adorn the front of the cabinet. Gorgeous string inlays adorn the door panel and back splash while an ebony and satinwood inlay was well placed around the edge of the door. The maker even ran strings of satinwood from the top all the way down both legs. These subtle inlays add elegance to the bow front cabinet but are not too intrusive. The color of the satinwood also blends well with the mahogany and does not create too much contrast.
Overall this bow front cabinet is in very good condition. There are two minor age separations, one on each side, that are a purely cosmetic phenomenon we see in solid wood pieces. Because they are small and dark, they do not even show in the photos. Otherwise this antique bow front cabinet is sturdy and the finish is in great shape.
