Product Description

Fine mahogany wood, tapered legs, and clean lines all define Edwardian period antique furniture. This mahogany writing desk has them all! Also, it is great size for any room.

Antique Writing Desk

Made during the Edwardian period, circa 1910 in England, this antique desk is an example of a great shift that occurred from the dark and heavy style of Victorian furniture, to the light and airy of the Edwardian era. Mahogany wood of medium brown with satinwood band and string inlay, add to the attractiveness of this desk. A lock is present for the center drawer, but no key remains. Accompanying brass handles are gently curved. Squared tapered legs terminate to spade feet. Additionally, the writing surface is a chocolate brown leather with gold tooling adorning the top; recently replaced in England.

Quality Construction

Evidence of the level of care and craftsmanship that went into the construction of this antique writing desk, can be seen in the hand cut dovetails. Dovetails are the strongest way to join a drawer and requires careful precision to do properly, but offer the greatest longevity for a piece. All of the intricate satinwood inlays that decorate the gorgeous mahogany wood were expertly done.

Overall, this strong and sturdy desk is in very good condition and will last for many years to come! A few overall minor things to mention; numerous small scratches can be found on the wood surrounding the leather on the table top. Also, small dings on the legs and minor chips in the banding. Furthermore, a cosmetic age separation and a small piece of molding missing can be found on the back of the desk. On the whole, this Edwardian writing desk is clean and ready to be used immediately upon arrival to your home or office.
Height of the writing area of the desk is 29.25″. Knee hole measures 22.5″ wide and is 22.25″ tall.
