This amazing English antique oak bench would look wonderful in an entryway, foyer, or mud room! It was originally made in England around 1890 and is still in very good condition today. Elaborate hand carvings and storage beneath the seat make it ideal for any home.
Victorian Period Antique Bench
Crafted during the Victorian period, this settle features hand carvings common to the period. Carved dragons flank the seating area while geometric patterns and flora cover the rest. Also, like many Victorian pieces this English antique oak bench was ebonized. Ebonzied means it was stained a very dark, almost black color. Over the years since, some of that has worn away leaving a very attractive medium-dark brown showing on the raised areas and a very dark black-brown in the recesses.
A hinged seat lifts up to reveal a large storage space in the base of this bench. This can make a great spot for a number of storage options including blankets, shoes, or coats.
English Antique Oak Bench Condition
The condition of this settle remains very good. Tiny wear marks you would expect from something this age exist here and there. Also, a small repair is visible on the top left corner of the top scrolled carving. Otherwise, this English antique oak bench remains sturdy and beautiful.
The seating area measures 36″ wide and 16″ deep. The seat height measures 17.5″.
