Consoles that are wide but not too deep are hard to find, but this mahogany console fits the bill perfectly! A piece like this is traditionally used as a buffet in a dining room but functions in a more modern way as a TV console.

Mahogany Console

This buffet was made in England around 1960. It is veneered with a fine flame mahogany which is bordered on the top with a satinwood string inlay. Outside of the inlay is a mahogany cross band. These three elements combine to give this mahogany console an elegant and sophisticated look without being gaudy. Traditional antiqued brass drop pulls on the drawers are functional and do not detract from the stunning flame mahogany wood.

Quality Craftsmanship

Several aspects of this mahogany console speak to the quality craftsmanship that went into its making. The materials used are all of the highest quality. The three drawers are all constructed with dovetailed drawer joints. Dovetailed joints are the strongest type of drawer joint and will ensure the drawers are strong for many years to come. Each drawer of the console slides easily open and closed. Interestingly, the middle drawer contains two removable, divided silverware trays.
The four cabinet doors all lock and a key is included. Inside each of the three sections (the middle two doors open up to one large section) are removable wooden shelves. The entire mahogany console sits on strong bracket feet.

Good Condition

Structurally, this mahogany console remains in excellent condition. The bottom molding exhibits a number of minor marks that could have been intentional distressing. A few other minor marks throughout the piece exist as well. These combine to give the piece a great aged look. Finally, the mahogany on the doors is a little faded. Personally, I think this is a beautiful look derived from age.
This mahogany console would be perfect for a dining room or in a living room or den. A TV could be placed on top of it or mounted to the wall above it. The narrow depth of the console makes it ideal for almost any area.
