This unusual fox head table is a French antique, circa 1890. It is a great size for a small dining table or excellent occasional table. Also, it would be ideal in a large foyer as a center table.
Fox Head Table
The name of this antique table is derived from the four fox heads that adorn the legs. They are a common carving among French furniture and add interest and character to the table. Today most fox head tables are used as breakfast tables or foyer tables. Because this table measures taller than most, it would also make a superb dining table. The wood used is a great selection of oak. Hand carvings adorn the edge of the top and all over the base. These carvings are exquisite and a lost art form that cannot be found today.
Antique Table Condition
This table is in very good condition. It is sturdy and strong. The top does show signs of wear over its 120+ years of life, but these are minor and serve to enhance the character and antiquity of the table. Also, the base exhibits some old repaired cracks. These appear quite strong and well done. Finally, this top used to separate for leaves. It no longer does so and there is a newer addition that attaches the top to the pedestal. This hidden addition also gives the table its more modern height.
The carvings are in great shape and are really quite eye-catching. This is a unique and special fox head table, so don’t miss your chance to snatch it up!
The height from the floor to the bottom of the apron measures 26.75″.
