Besides the fact this is a huge set, there are a few small extra features/details to this antique barley twist dining chair set that make it a really unique and exciting find. First, they have leather upholstered pop out seats. This provides a visually appealing seat that is very easy to clean. Second would be the gentle hand carvings in the top and on the back rests. These carvings are very Jacobean in style and fit perfectly with the overall look of the chairs.
Antique Dining Chairs
This set was made in England around the year 1920. They are solid oak and very sturdy. The set consists of ten chairs. Two are arm chairs and eight are sides. The barley twist carvings on the back rests and front legs are really well done. They are thick and proportioned perfectly for this antique barley twist dining chair set. The oak wood has also developed a really lovely patina (darker recesses, lighter raised areas) that can only come from Father Time himself.
Each seat cushion pops out for easy recovering and cleaning.
Chair Set Condition
Overall these chairs are in good condition. Each one exhibits some normal wear in the form of small dings and marks as you would expect from something about 100 years old. Four of the side chairs have repaired breaks to the barley twist. We have included a sample picture. The repairs are strong and blend well. Also, one of the leather seats has a small (about .25″ long) puncture.
The arm chairs each measure 22.75″ wide x 22″ deep x 44″ tall and have an arm height of 30.5″. In addition, the seat height of the arm chairs is 20″ while the sides are 18.5″. The side chairs measure 17.75″ wide x 18″ deep x 42″ tall.
