This splendid antique oak writing table is a wonderful piece of English furniture. Originally made by Cooke’s (Finsbury) Ltd. around the year 1960, it has survived the years in excellent condition!
Among the many beautiful characteristics this desks exhibits are the find brass handles and gorgeous green leather top The leather used is a top grade hide that has been embossed and tooled around the edges. Leather is a wonderful writing surface, far superior to other materials. The swan neck handles are solid brass and quite attractive. Finally, several coats of hand rubbed wax were applied giving the desk a lovely patina and sheen.
Antique Oak Wood
The oak wood of this writing table is stunning. It has developed a wonderful patina since its creation sometime around 1960. The strong grain and golden color of the oak goes perfectly with the antiqued brass hardware and gold tooled green leather. The finish on the wood is a fine coat of hand rubbed wax which can easily be maintained with furniture paste wax over the years.
While each drawer has a lock, no key remains.
This antique oak writing table would be perfect for a variety of uses. Its small size lends itself to smaller rooms or alcoves. An antique desk of this size could also be used in a larger room where you just need something small to fill in with. Also, having the back fully finished is a huge boon to decorating and redecorating!
