This antique style Sheraton mahogany writing desk was made in England around 1960. The mahogany has beautiful, rich color which contrasts nicely with the green leather top. Leather makes the perfect writing surface, far superior to other materials. This leather has an elegant gold tooled border, a sign of quality craftsmanship. Another sign of the quality craftsmanship that went into this desk are the dovetailed drawer joints. Each drawer opens and closes easily and is adorned with turned wooden knobs. All three drawers are extremely deep (front to back) giving you a large amount of storage for three drawers. The middle drawer had a divider added about two thirds of the way back which is probably handy to keep your pencils from rolling all the way back every time you shut the drawer. This writing desk sits on four square tapered legs that end in spade feet, a perfect example of the Sheraton style.
Sheraton Desk Condition
Overall this desk is in very good condition. The green leather appears to have been recently replaced and is in excellent shape. The edge molding and legs do have minor marks consistent with age. These small indents and nicks give the writing desk character. The back of the piece is finished, an important feature in any writing table. It would do fine in an area where the back was visible. The “knee” area measures 24.25″ from the floor to the bottom of the desk. While the locks remain, there is no key with this piece.
With three drawers for storage, a large size, and a great overall look, this Sheraton style writing desk is the perfect addition for any office or home office area!
