This is a vintage English red leather club chair that was made around 1980. It has recently been refurbished in England to bring back the leather’s original color and luster. The result is a gorgeous club chair that would look great in any setting!
Vintage Leather Club Chair
The leather on this vintage club chair has darker and lighter tones of red that seamlessly come together to create a fabulous look. Coupled with the gently curved and rolled arms and buttoned leather, you are looking at a classic, elegant chair. Four mahogany bun feet can be found at the bottom of the chair and a row of brass brads goes up each arm rest. The seating area measures 19″ wide x 21.5 deep and is 16.25″ from the floor. The seat cushion is removable and sits firmly in place while in the chair. The cushion was re-stuffed as part of the refurbishing process and is quite comfortable.
The origins of the club chair are thought to be in France where it was referred to as the “comfortable armchair.” Most, like this one, are covered in leather although other materials may be used. The term “club” became popular as these chairs were frequently the seating of choice in gentleman’s clubs. A gentleman’s club is where men would gather to smoke, drink brandy, and discuss politics.
The condition of this leather club chair is very good. The leather is nicely worn with slight wrinkling on arm rests. The seat cushion also has some wrinkling. Also, there is a small mark on the front of the left arm rest. Finally a small, dark stain on the bottom of the chair by the right front foot. Overall this chair has a very nice, traditional look that would enhance any room. It is clean and ready to be used immediately.
