The club style arm chair has been around since the nineteenth century when buttoned leather chairs such as this one were used in gentleman’s clubs in England. Today we still see the club chair as a masculine counterpart to the traditional Chesterfield sofa. This particular arm chair is a wonderful example of the style.
The 17.5″ seat height is appropriate for the style and the seat cushion is quite comfortable to sit on. This is partially because the cushion was recently re-stuffed in England. This club chair was made in England, probably around 1980 or so. Flared out arm rests that are rolled with brass nail heads sit at the same height as the back rest. Finally four mahogany bun feet keep the leather club chair sturdy and slightly raised from the floor.
The green buttoned leather has worn nicely over the years, developing some minor crackling that is normal wear and gives the chair a superb look. The crackling will not get worse as long as the leather is treated with leather conditioner a couple times a year. Conditioner can be found at your local auto parts store, and the process takes only a few minutes. Overall this is a sturdy, comfortable chair that will last for years to come.
The seating area measures 19″ wide and 22″ deep.
