Made at the tail end of the Victorian furniture period (sometime around the year 1900) in England, this mahogany antique bookcase is a great looking piece to hold any book collection or other collectibles / display things. Whether you are looking to add to your library or just need a little extra display in your living room, this antique bookcase is what you need!
The two glass doors lock with one included key and are individually paned in the traditional astragal style. Inside you will find four adjustable wooden shelves. Each shelf has a depth of 12.5″, a good size. They can be adjusted with the alligator bracket system we show in the pictures. This is a strong and easy to use system that has been around for hundreds of years. At the top a Greco-Roman trim adds some elegance to the top while slightly swept bracket feet add some curve to the bookcase. Adding a little more shape to the piece is an apron between the feet. The mahogany wood has a lovely grain and dark color.
Antique Bookcase Condition
For being over 110 years old this bookcase is in very good condition. The doors open and close nicely and the shelves are strong. There are some minor cosmetic wear marks throughout, as you would expect from something this old. The worst wear is on the feet (again as expected) with the back left foot in particular that has a small piece of missing veneer. Also a very small piece of the Greco-Roman trim is missing on the right corner. Otherwise it is a sturdy piece and will serve your home for many years to come. If you are looking for an antique bookcase then this is the piece for you!
