Product Description

Made in two pieces (top and bottom), this stunning mahogany breakfront bookcase would liven up any dining room, living room, or office. Its beautiful flame mahogany wood and astragal glazed doors are a testament to the attractive qualities of English furniture.

Mahogany Breakfront Bookcase

Consisting of four glass doors across the top, three drawers, and four wooden doors at the bottom this breakfront has an amazing amount of display space and hidden storage. The bookcase was originally made in England sometime around 1960. The center top shelves have a depth of 11.75″ while the side shelves have a depth of 10.25″ and can be adjusted to one of three different positions via a brass pin system. The shelves in the lower cabinets adjust as well. All of the doors lock with the included key.

High Quality

This mahogany breakfront bookcase was very well made. The three drawers all slide in and out effortlessly on their wooden runners. All the drawers were made with dovetailed joints. Dovetailing is also known as mortise and tenon joining and is the best and strongest way to make drawers. The pulls on this mahogany breakfront bookcase are a decorative brass swan neck drop pull. Instead of a plain top, the cornice is dentil moulded giving the bookcase added elegance. The bracket feet provide strength and support.
The flame mahogany used on the mahogany breakfront bookcase is exceptional. It has a wonderful grain and attractive color. The maker further accented the wood’s grain by adding a string inlay and cross band around the doors.

Very Good Condition

The condition of the mahogany breakfront bookcase is very good. It is strong and sturdy and the shelves will support the weight of heavy books. The lower molding has some light dings in various places, and there are a very few on the middle molding as well. These wear marks are expected from a piece of this age and add to the bookcase’s character.
