This charming mahogany drop leaf table was crafted around the year 1910. With a rich selection of mahogany and a sturdy structure, it would make a fine addition as a side table in any period furniture collection.
Flexible mahogany drop leaf table design
The classic drop leaf design of this side table allows it to meet a variety of needs. In normal use, the leaves can be left down to save space while functioning as a side, sofa, or lamp table. When extra surface area is needed, the leaves can be lifted up and the strong supports beneath them can be swung out to expand the table top from 21.5″ to 61″ in length. Additionally, the scrolled feet rest on casters for easy movement. This array of functional details is a hallmark of antique furniture ingenuity, which has always been a defining aspect of period pieces like this mahogany drop leaf table.
Rich mahogany wood
The selection of mahogany used in the construction of this table is quite rich. Over the years, it has developed a lovely patina, which deepens the natural beauty of the wood. As a result, a stunning patina has set in over its many years of life. This owes partly to the quality of the mahogany and partly to the elaborate finishing process that was applied during the making of this piece, which is readily apparent in the richness of the wood’s complexion. It is also coated with a layer of hand-rubbed wax, which helps flesh out and protect the integrity of the finish as well as the mahogany itself.
Very good condition
There are a few cosmetic flaws to point out on this table, none of which are overly detracting. The top has minor wear marks here and there and a few along its edge. You will also see a few minor marks around the feet and base. Finally, the top and pedestal have a few minor age separations which are cosmetic only. The overall condition of this table is in fact good, and it will certainly last for many decades to come.
