Here we have an outstanding pair of Neoclassical tall marble top pedestals. Done in a gorgeous burled walnut wood with complimenting dark marble and accents, this pair would make ideal places to display anything from large vases to statues and everything in between! These were made in Europe sometime around the year 1940.
Each pedestal consists of a marble top, with a thick burled walnut apron below. At the top of each tapered column rests a blackamoore bust. At the bottom is a gilded wood molding. Between the support columns are ebonized wood cross decorations with a circular decoration in the middle. The combination of light and dark colors are quite indicative of the Neoclassical style.
Pair of Tall Marble Top Pedestals Condition
Both pedestals remain very sturdy and ready for everyday use right away. One marble top has two small chips and a filled in chip on one edge. All of the blackamoores and gilded modlings have a variety of minor chipping to their paint and wood. We have shown a sampling in the pictures. There is minor wear consistent with age around the feet and on the walnut wood in places as well, but nothing that distracts from the stunning beauty of this pair of pedestals.
