This burl walnut pedestal dining table is a unique and beautiful piece that is sure to be the center piece of any dining room. The attention to detail and skill that went into its construction are evident in the beautiful table that resulted.
Walnut Pedestal Dining Table
The pedestal base of this round walnut pedestal dining table is a vintage base, made sometime around 1960-1980. The furniture maker found it and refinished it and then made the new 60″ burled walnut top to go with it. The resulting “marriage” table (putting two separate pieces from two separate makers together to form one piece of furniture) is absolutely stunning. The furniture maker who has created this lovely round table is a third generation furniture maker in England who crafts and finishes by hand, the old way.
Stunning Burled Walnut
I believe the most attractive part of this table is the elegant burled walnut used on the top. The carefully selected veneers were chosen for their elaborate grain and then cut into “pie shaped” segments. The border of the table has been cross banded with rosewood giving the walnut pedestal dining table’s top a more finished and formal look. The maker used a seven stage, hand rubbed finish on the table. While strong and durable, this finish has an antique look and is not glossy like many new tables.
Ball and Claw Pedestal Base
The sturdy, vintage base of this round table is in excellent condition. It was refinished at the same time the top was made so they match exactly. The base of the walnut pedestal dining table has decorative carvings on its four legs and each of the four legs end in ball and claw feet. Four brass pins secure the round top to the ball and claw base and the dining table is quite sturdy.
