Embodying the best in period English cabinetry, this burl walnut credenza was recently hand-crafted by a third-generation cabinetmaker in the UK. Using the finest materials and the most refined techniques, he produced a true heirloom quality piece that would make a fine addition to any home or office furniture collection.
Classic credenza design
Designed in a classic Georgian style, this walnut credenza features a number of distinctive period elements. These include the traditionally banded drawer fronts and top as well as the solid brass swan neck pulls and brass locks. The locks operate with antique style skeleton keys. Each drawer of course features hand-cut dovetails, just as they would have in the Georgian period. This credenza also offers modern day functionality, as the five standard drawers, two file drawers that fit legal- and letter-sized files, and central cabinet provide a great deal of storage space all under lock and key.
Rich burl walnut
The wood is a rich burl walnut veneered over solid wood just as it would have been in the Georgian period. The crossbanding around the top and drawer fronts is also walnut, and because of its perpendicular grain contrasts beautifully with the burl walnut. The wood has been treated to an elaborate, multi-step finishing process that ended in a fine coat of hand-rubbed wax, which both protects and enriches the natural beauty of the wood. The result is an exquisite walnut credenza that would look stunning in any setting.
True heirloom quality
Not only is this walnut credenza beautiful, but it is also very sturdy. The finish is thick and strong, so it resists wear marks and will continue to grow more beautiful as time passes and a patina settles into the wood. The solid brass hardware was, like the rest of this wonderful piece, crafted in England, so the mechanical parts like the hinges and locks promise to endure as long as the credenza in its entirety. Finally the solid wood structure is incredibly durable as well as a bit heavy, and will resist warping and cracking over the years. This is truly an heirloom quality credenza to pass down the generations, so it is both a promising addition to any period furniture collection as well as a mart investment.
