This is a classics Victorian mahogany bow front chest. It features a two over three drawer design, splayed bracket feet, and a great looking flame mahogany. Whether you need an antique dresser for your bedroom, living room, or foyer, this would be beautiful anywhere!
England is where this bow front dresser was originally made and we estimate it was constructed around the year 1880. The hand cut dovetails on the drawers are not only evidence of this but show the care that went into the chest’s construction. While not original, the brass plate back handles are a really good look on this chest. Handles are rarely ever original on a chest as they were changed out as styles changed throughout the years. This chest has locks on the drawers but no key is present.
Mahogany Bow Front Chest
The wood on the drawer fronts is a very lovely flame mahogany. The swirls and patterns of the wood look lovely and this piece would be great in any room with natural light. Setting off the top and helping to showcase the gentle bow front shape is a satinwood cross band. Finally a shaped apron runs between the splayed bracket feet finishing the bottom off nicely.
This chest is in excellent condition. The drawer fronts do exhibit some areas where the wood has shrunk over time and left some age separations in the veneer. These are old and normal and you can see them quite clearly in the pictures. They are cosmetic only and for most of us lend character to a dresser already rich with history.
