Two-Drawer File Cabinet in Mahogany

This two-drawer file cabinet was recently hand-crafted in England by a third-generation cabinetmaker. Designed in a classic Georgian style, every detail speaks of the absolute highest quality, making this cabinet a fine prospect for any period furniture collection.

Well-designed two-drawer file cabinet

Both drawers on this file cabinet lock with an accompanying pair of keys and slide smoothly on metal rails. Each keyhole is guarded with a traditional solid brass escutcheon both for decoration and to protect the wood from being scratched with keys. The drawers both fit legal- and letter-sized files, so they are universally suitable for office storage. They come already equipped with a hanging file system. As a result this two-drawer file cabinet is not only a classic Georgian period reproduction but also a well-made and functional piece.

Rich flame mahogany

The selection of mahogany used in this piece displays a rich, lustrous complexion and a highly pronounced grain. Satinwood banding has been inlaid on the drawer fronts to produce a lovely contrast that makes piece stand out quite beautifully. Such beauty can only come from skilled craftsmanship, as the wood has been treated to an elaborate finishing process that included several laborious stages ending in a fine, hand-rubbed coat of wax. A lovely green leather insert has been inlaid to the top. Few two-drawer file cabinets can boast this level of quality and detail!

True heirloom quality reproduction

Both aesthetically and functionally this file cabinet is truly a peerless heirloom quality piece. It is also incredibly sturdy, with a thick, solid wood structure that promises to last for generations to come. The shaped bracket feet are incredibly strong, as the curved design distributes the weight in such a way that the thick wood will easily bear quite a bit of weight. These details are not for nothing, as antique furniture collectors know that this level of hand-crafted luxury is not just a nice addition to the home or office, but an investment that will endure for many years and retain its value all the while!
