From the shaped top rail to the padded feet, this set of 4 mahogany Queen Anne side chairs exude the flagrant characteristics found in chairs produced in the 17th century under this style. The backs or “stiles” and the hind legs are constructed from one solid piece of timber for added stability and strength. The back upright splat is of a marvelous vase design. The front legs are of cabriole design and rest on padded feet which mimic the curve of the backs. The cushions are of a lovely red hue and sewn with a fashionable flower pattern. Each cushion is supported by four cross struts in the corners of the seat rail and may be easily removed for cleaning. From the floor to the top of the seat, the height is 18.5″. These particular chairs are meant to line the sides of the table and not the head. They were crafted without arms for easy accommodation at the sides of the table. These chairs would be an elegant addition to your formal dining table that you have at home or one you select from the showroom here at English Classics. We estimate that these chairs were made around the year 1940, and they were made in England.
These chairs are of quality construction so they will last for generations with proper care. The cushions are all in pretty good shape there are a couple that are starting to fade and could use some attention. The wood is strong and sturdy. Each chair has variety of small scuffs and dings mostly around the legs, feet, and seats. Two of the backrests have very tiny age separations, which is normal for solid wood pieces. The pictures are a great representation of all of these effects.
