This elegant mahogany bookcase was crafted in England around the year 1975. Today, the mahogany retains a stunning color and a striking grain that would complement any setting. Georgian style design elements make this traditional bookcase very attractive: the brass ring drop pulls contrast beautifully with the medium mahogany, while astragal glass and fluted lines adorn the rest of the bookcase. Each drawer pulls in and out smoothly and features dovetailed joints. Inside the upper cabinet are three adjustable wooden shelves with a shelf depth of 10.25″. The adjustments are a brass pin and hole system. Inside the lower cabinet is one wooden shelf (removable but not adjustable). Both doors lock and one key is included.
Perhaps second only to its beauty in importance is the maker’s mark inside the left upper door. This piece was made by N. Norman Ltd. in England. The piece also has in one of the drawers a catalog of N. Norman’s showing this piece. Great proof of its origin and provenance!
Structurally this bookcase is very strong and sturdy. There are a number of small dings, dents, and marks throughout especially around the base and center mouldings. These small marks are normal for a piece of this age. Overall though this vintage bookcase has a very good look and is ready to go right into the home. The bookcase itself disassembles quite easily: the top simply sits on the base. This vintage bookcase would certainly make a fine addition to any home or office furniture collection!
