Product Description

This is an original William IV period antique sideboard from England. It is an impressive piece that is sure to awe all who gaze upon it. Perfect for a large room where you want to make a bold statement.

William IV Period

The William IV period is really the end of the Regency period and start of the Victorian period. Furniture styles began to move away from revitalizing older styles and creating a new, romanticized style. This sideboard does epitomize this transition. The legs are very Regency while the gentle carvings around the doors and drawers have a Victorian feel to them.

Antique Sideboard

The right section is a long, deep drawer that has been fitted on the inside. This would have normally stored tall wine bottles. The left is a regular cabinet door which you will notice is not very deep. That is because on the left side of the antique sideboard you will find a little door giving access to the space behind the cabinet. This would have originally been used to store valuables as a not-so-obvious place to throw off potential thieves. Unfortunately, the lock for this little area is no longer there, but the door stays shut on its own accord.

Overall in good condition there are a few cosmetic issues to point out with this William IV antique sideboard. There are two small areas of replaced veneer on the front edge (shown in pictures). The left door has a bow to it which is not uncommon for such a thick piece of solid mahogany. There is no key for the locks. The top has three slight age separations which are again common for solid mahogany antiques. You will also notice above the large drawer on the right it looks like the lock was dug out at some point, there are markings in that area. Since this sideboard was made around the year 1820 we feel these are minor issues that serve to add character to an already stunning piece of furniture.
The height from the floor to the counter top not counting the back splash is 37.5″.
